Taxation

Taxation is theft.  We need to abolish the IRS and the income tax.  I will make this a priority if elected.  I will look to think tanks and other policy organizations such as the Cato Institute for alternatives to coercive taxation.  I do not advocate a flat tax, national sales tax, or any other tax to replace the income tax.  The limited constitutional functions of our government can be financed easily by the current level of tariffs and excise taxes.  If a voluntary method can be found to finance the legitimate functions of the Federal government, I will fight to have it adopted.  But I make a promise to you that I will NEVER vote to adopt a new tax--only to repeal or decrease existing ones.

Gun Control

The Second Amendment is very clear on the right to keep and bear arms.  This right is not preserved for the purpose of hunting or recreation.  It is for self-defense, against criminals and against oppressive governments.  We must repeal all laws restricting the right to keep and bear arms.  More on my position here.

Education

Since the Constitution authorizes no role for the Federal government in the business of education, I propose to end Federal involvement in education.  If elected, I will work to repeal all federal subsidies for education and all federal meddling in education.  Education is a matter to be dealt with on the state and local level.
Since I am not an expert on the subject, I refer you to the Separation of School and State Alliance.

The War on Drugs

I propose we take immediate steps to end the insane war on drugs. Earlier this century, Prohibition of Alcohol spawned a whole new world of organized crime.  When Prohibition was repealed, alcohol use decreased significantly.  Today we see a repeat of the same scenario in the war on Drugs.  Drug Prohibition has driven the price of drugs up and made it profitable for criminals to sell drugs, preying on even the most vulnerable--children--to make money.  Ending prohibition now would pull the rug out from under organized crime and turn the drug business over to reputable companies who risk ruin if they put out unsafe products or market them to children.  This would also permit states to set limits on the legal age for buying these items.  Am I crazy?  More info on my stance here.

Social Security

Our government's attempt to provide security for older citizens has failed and is bankrupt.  Politicians have been throwing money at the program for years to avoid dealing with the truth.  I believe it is imperative that we end the federal system of Social Security now and find private alternatives that will protect citizen's rights and their investments.  I will again look to organizations like the Cato Institute for responsible, realistic solutions to the problem.  For more info on privatizing Social Security, click here.

U.S. Postal Service

The U.S. Postal service has failed to serve America effectively.  Rates have been raising while level of service has been dropping.  Private companies have proven they have the ability to provide higher levels of service for more reasonable prices in the area of parcel delivery.  Open up the business of regular mail delivery to competition by private companies and phase out the U.S. Postal service.  For articles on privatizing postal delivery, click here.
